Our business model employs contract farming as a market access and scale up instrument for small and medium scale farmers in South Rift and Western Kenya.  We link farmer groups to industrial processors for sustainable soybean, sunflower and canola promotion in Kenya. Due to land fragmentation, our model solves the problem of low economies of scale by providing cost effective end-to-end services to a network of franchise farmer groups.

To disseminate best practices and sensitize farmers on agricultural technologies and innovations, Tanuru Farms operates its own farms, which acts as nuclei farms from where farmers are engaged as out growers. This engagement involves education and training on better agronomic practices, innovations and technologies for improved smallholder agricultural production.

We provide four key services required for smallholder farmers to be successful:

contractFinancial Service: Utilizing an innovative approach to de-risk members of the farmer groups through assured markets, Tanuru Farms raises cost effective capital to finance its farmer members.

Agricultural Input Services: Tanuru Farms provides the appropriate balance of agricultural inputs, at the right time, applied in the right way, at highly competitive prices. This ensures that members of Tanuru Farms attain optimal levels of productivity and product quality, while minimizing negative environmental impacts.

Training & Development: Tanuru Farms provides the required training and development to establish strong democratic farmer groups.

Marketing Services: Members get access to Tanuru Farms market services that assure good warehousing practices, access to good markets and increased profits.
